Karen Higgins and Kathy Pieper will attend the Healthcare Supplier Diversity Symposium on September 14 and 15 in Richmond. The symposium is hosted by Owens & Minor, in conjunction with NAHSE, HSDA and VMSDC. The theme of this year's event is "From Inclusion to Partnership: Shaping a New Era in Supplier Diversity," and it will explore ways to move diversity suppliers from inclusion to greater utilization in the supply chain. Just Like Sisters^® has been recertified as a Women-owned business (WBE) under the Virginia Small, Women- and Minority- owned business (SWaM) program.

The SWaM certification program is administered by the Virginia Department of Minority Business Enterprise (“DMBE”) and is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s effort to help small, women- and minority-owned businesses with doing business with state government entities. 

 

Karen Higgins and Kathy Pieper were awarded the issuance of U. S. Patent No. 7,731,030 on June 8 for a suppository delivery device. Production and availability to the public are expected soon.
 

Karen Higgins served as Chair for the recent Go Red for Women Luncheon in Richmond, VA. The very successful event featured a silent auction, a heart-healthy lunch and a keynote address by Sheila Crump Johnson. Johnson, a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist was a co-founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and currently serves as CEO of Salamander Hospitality, specializing in the management of independent luxury hotels, resorts and fine food establishments.

The Go Red for Women Luncheon takes a critical step toward raising women’s awareness that heart disease is their number one cause of death.  Women who understand their risks of heart disease, and know the steps to prevent it, are better equipped to avert this serious – and mostly preventable – threat to their health.

Just Like Sisters^® recently participated in two American Business Women's Association events. As corporate sponsors for the River City Express Network Business Fair, Just Like Sisters^® visited with attendees at their fair booth (pictured at left) and contributed the food for the event.

JLS furnished floral arrangements and welcome bag gifts for the ABWA Spring Conference in Norfolk, Virginia. The conference attracted over 200 businesswomen from the Mid-Atlantic and surrounding areas.

The American Business Women's Association has established a recruitment rewards program - Express Rewards. Members earn points whenever they recruit a new member to the association. Those points translate to dollars on a gift card to places like AMC Theatres, Barns & Noble, Starbucks and Target. The first member to qualify for a gift card is Karen Higgins, a member of River City Express Network in Richmond, Virginia.
